Bernhard Heinrich Romberg

Romberg, Bernhard Heinrich (1767-1841). German violoncellist and composer. First appeared in public as a ’cellist at the age of 7. Member of the Electoral orchestra in Bonn in 1790-1793. Subsequently toured extensively throughout Europe giving concerts. Taught at the Paris Conservatoire in 1801-1803. Court music director in Berlin 1815-1819, after which he retired to Hamburg. Many compositions including operas, chamber music and works for violoncello.
