Giovanni Gabrieli

Gabrieli, Giovanni (c.1554-1612). Venetian composer and organist, engaged in the city at St Mark’s Basilica and later at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. Hugely successful, his reputation as a composer was renowned throughout Europe. His works represent the peak of Italian Renaissance style and anticipate and forshadow Baroque idioms.
