František Ladislav Rieger

Rieger, František Ladislav (1818-1903). Czech politician and writer. The leader of the Old-Czech political faction [Staročeská strana] and active Czech patriot. As a writer his major work was the Slovník naučný, the first Czech encyclopedia, the first volume of which was published in 1859. He also wrote poetry, some of which was set to music.
