Michael William Balfe

Balfe, Michael William (1808-1870). Irish composer and baritone singer. After a brief but successful career as a singer he became established in Britain as a leading native composer for the stage, writing some 26 large-scale works, many of which enjoyed substantial success during the first half of the nineteenth century.
