Franz Steger
Stéger, František (1825-1911). Stage name of Franjo Stazić, Croatian bass singer. Initially he worked as a pharmacist’s assistant but from the late 1840s began to study singing and develop a career as a singer. He studied in Vienna and in Budapest and in 1852-1853 was engaged at the Estates Theatre in Prague. In late 1853 he accepted an appointment to the Court Opera [Hofoper] in Vienna but returned frequently to Prague to perform in concerts and later at the city’s Czech Provisional Theatre.
