Charles Philippe Lafont

Lafont, Charles Philippe (1781-1839). French violinist, singer and composer. Taught violin initially by his mother, embarked upon concert travels in Germany as a child virtuoso. Brief period c.1800 as a ballad singer in the Théâtre Feydeau. Solo violinist to the St Petersburg court (1808-1815), then at French court of Louis XVIII until 1831. The remaining years of his life were spent as a touring virtuoso.
