Institution Details

Name: Flöte

Commentary:
Flöte. Prague German male-voice singing society founded in 1861. According to Prager Morgenpost 4/2/1863, the statute of the Society was revised in 1863. This occurred when the musical directorship of the Society also changed, possibly as a result of the developing musical environment in Prague with its increasing polarization into Czech- and German-orientated factions.

Prager Morgenpost 10/5/1863 reported that at the end of May 1863 Flöte would embark upon a visit to Aussig [Ustí nad Labem] and Leitmeritz [Litoměřice], performing ‘several new choruses’, in the latter at the local town music society. After visiting Litoměřice, Flöte would proceed to Lobositz [Lovosice] where it would again perform for the local music society, and then to Aussig [Ustí nad Labem].
