The Národní listy 1/10/1862 advertisement stated that this beseda was to take place ‘today’. Although a brief statement appeared in Národní listy 3/10/1862 recording that the beseda occurred ‘yesterday evening’, this later report was most probably written on 2/10/1862 but not published in the newspaper until the following day. The unsigned correspondent reported that the ‘Musical garland [Musikální věneček] in the Měšťanská beseda [Civic Society] taking place yesterday evening met with general approval. All of the participating artists received meritorious applause and the entire gathering was best entertained.’ No details of the programme were related. Národní listy 2/10/1862 contained no advertisements or reports to suggest that the production did occur on 2/10/1862.
Bohemia 1/10/1862 also published an advertisement detailing this event. This announced:
‘Civic Society. [Měšťanská beseda]
Today takes place in the locale of the Society a
Musical-Declamatory Entertainment.
Commencing at 8pm.’
This information was followed by a note expressing the hope that members and their wives would ensure the event was well attended. Gentlemen members were asked to remember to bring their admission [membership] cards.
