An advertisment was published in Mercy’s Anzeiger 28/2/1857 for this event. The text, printed in both Czech and German, related: ‘On Monday 2nd March will be in the Měšťanská beseda / Bürgerressource [Civic society] a musical and declamatory evening entertainment. Wives of gentlemen members [of the Měšťanská beseda] are invited. Commencing after 7pm.’ This advertisement was repeated in the newspaper on 1st and 2/3/1857.
A brief review, signed ‘§’, published by Mercy’s Anzeiger 4/3/1857 reported that the first ‘musical and declamatory evening entertainment’ attracted an extraordinarily numerous society that received the music with the loudest applause. The event continued late into the night and was deemed a great success.
A second entertainment was given by the Civic Society on 12/3/1857.
