Commentary:

An unsigned account of this event attributed as being reproduced from the newspaper Prager Zeitung was published by Der Tagesbote 22/9/1854. The correspondent described the occasion as ‘a modest yet splendid festival’. Present were various military personnel. The occasion evidently involved speeches given at table [perhaps signifying a banquet], after which the Volkshymne was given. No further details were related about the musical content of the event.

Mercy’s Anzeiger 18/9/1854 announced this event in its daily Vergnügungsanzeiger: ‘Today Monday: On the Shooters Island the Ensemble of the Royal 24th Rifles Battalion’. No further details were given by this source, suggesting the event was similar to many such occasions give at that venue by this ensemble.
