Venue rooms (type):

Tagesbote 2/10/1858 published news that Wiedemann, formerly of the Estates Theatre orchestra, had obtained a concession to set up a music institute for stringed instruments and piano. The author of the text welcomed this move given that to his knowledge there was no similar institute in the city to teach string playing. Dalibor 21/10/1858 also announced that Wiedemann, ‘member of the orchetra of the Estates Theatre has obtained permission that he may direct a music teaching institute in which piano, violin and theory will be taught. More news is available from Karlová ulice no.116-I.’ Whether the address mentioned was that of the fledgling institute or Wiedemann’s quarters was not specified. Four years later, Národní listy 20/9/1862 reported the commencement of a new year of activity at the institute, noting that ‘practical music education on the piano, violin and violoncello’ would start at the beginning of October. The text reported that the institute was located at Náměstí sv. Havla [Square of St Guy] no.497-I.
