Ferdinand David

David, Ferdinand (1810-1873). German violinist and composer. A child prodigy, he studied with Spohr and Hauptmann and made his first appearance at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig in 1825. In 1836 he was appointed leader of the Gewandhaus orchestra. Composed mostly for the violin, including 5 concerti and much chamber music.
