Pitsch, Karel František (1786-1858). Czech (from Bartošovice) organist, pedagogue and composer. Learnt the organ first from his father and then from Konstantin Bach and others in Reichenbach. Taught music and the organ in Prague from the middle 1820s. In 1832 became organist at St Nicholas [sv. Mikuláš] church in the Lesser Quarter. In 1839 was appointed teacher of organ at the Organ School and then in the early 1840s was appointed its Director. He also taught harmony at the Prague Conservatory. He gained an outstanding reputation as a teacher and was highly respected and well-loved by his pupils. His compositions include many organ works and a body of church music. Among his most important other works werre his collection and publication of compositions by leading Bohemian organists of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, the Museum für Orgelspieler (Prague: Berra, 1832-1834), and his collection of Czech Catholic chorales published by Jan Hoffmann in 1854 under the German title Zwanzig der gebräuchlichsten katholischen Choräle.
