Adolphe Charles Adam
Adam, Adolphe Charles (1803-1856). French composer. His initial studies at the Paris Conservatoire were as an amateur, but following the production of his first opera at the Opéra-Comique in 1829 he gradually established himself as an important and popular composer for the stage. In 1847 he founded the Théâtre National, and in two years later was appointed Professor of Composition at the Paris Conservatoire. His most important works were his operas and ballets.
