Name: Piano Institute of Karel Hodyc

Commentary:
Founded in 1843 by Hodyc and located in the Malá strana [Little Quarter] at Nr.259 Malostranské náměstí. Besides annual performance examinations for its pupils the institute also staged occasional musical soirées which were open to the public. Twenty years later, in 1863, the Institute was still active at the same locality, Prager Morgenpost 13/9/1863 reporting: ‘In the Music Institute of Mr C. Hodytz in the Little Quarter (Stephansplatz [Malostranské náměstí] commences at the beginning of October its new musical teaching course. The pupils are by now already enrolled for this.’ The same issue of the newspaper also contained an advertisement from the Institute noting: ‘In the Music Institute of Carl Hodytz, Prague, Little Quarter, Stephansplatz Nr.259, begins on 1st October the music teaching course in piano playing, harmony, counterpoint and composition. The enrollment of new pupils is now taking place, daily at any hour.’
