Commentary:

The German-language Prague daily newspaper Tagesbote aus Böhmen 3/12/1857 reported that ‘Yesterday at 7am there was given in the Benedictine Monastary at Emaus [Emauzy] a solemn Requiem for King Karl IV [Charles IV], the founder of the monastary and [its] church. This is done in accordance with an old, centuries-old custom. The Requiem was celebrated by the Most Reverend Prior of the monastary with numerous assistants, and in the presence of all of the incumbents.’ No details were noted as to the musical content of the occasion (if any).
