Cathedral church of St Vitus. Principal church of Prague, founded in 929 although the greater part of its construction took place between 1344 and the commencement of the Hussite Wars under the architects Matthew of Arras and Peter Parler. During the nineteenth century as the Metropolitan Church it was used for state-religious occasions and for worship in Prague by the Emperor Ferdinand (deposed 1848). Between 1871 and 1929 building work was finally completed in neo-Gothic style.
