Pštroska Garden. Prague outdoor venue for social musical entertainments during the nineteenthe century. According to A. Srb: ‘Kanálka, Pštroska, Eichmanka’, in: Z půl století, vzpomínky Adolfa Srba (Prague: Šimáček, 1916), 150-159 the Pěstroska Garden was ocated adjacent to the Canal’s Garden (Kanálska zahrada). It originated from a vineyard purchased in 1815 by Jan and Babetta Pštross, and was from that time known as the ‘Pětroska’. This was laid out into a garden and spa for the benefit of the inhabitants of the city. Part of this garden was given over in 1849 to the construction by the directorship of the Estates Theatre of an outdoor arena for summer performances (see separate venue entry). In 1872 the gardens were sold, divided into parcels of building land and housing constructed.

During their existence the Pštroska Gardens were a frequent venue for outdoor social musical entertainments.
