Bedřich Smetana

Smetana, Bedřich (1824-1884). Czech pianist, conductor and composer. One of the five founders member of the musical circle of the Umělecká beseda. Director of the Czech Provisional Theatre. Tagesbote aus Böhmen 25/8/1857 reported that: ‘Our countryman, the pianist Mr Fr. Smetana, Kapellmeister in Gothenburg in Sweden, tarries a while visiting his relatives in Neustadt a.d. Mettau [Nové město nade mětují], and hias organized a musical-declamatory Academy the profit from which is intended to establish a fund for the Prague Institute for the Blind for Hradec Králové.
