Paganini, Niccolò (1782-1840). Genoese violinist and composer. First studied violin and guitar with his father, afterwards with the theatre violinist Servetto. First appeared in public aged 9, and at 15 made his first professional tour. He then travelled widely, becoming increasingly famous and regarded as the greatest exponent of his instrument. He composed almost exclusively for either the violin or guitar.
