Karel Slavík

Slavík, Karel (1837-1895). Czech composer and music teacher. Active in Prague during late 1850s, but  c.1860 moved to Těšín where he established his own private music school. During the late 1850s he began to write Czech songs and male voice choruses, the latter soon gaining substantial popularity among emerging contemporary patriotic Czech choral societies. According to Dalibor 10/6/1859 they were characterized by ‘powerful expression, cast-iron form, and music that blazes with national feeling.’
