Podhorská, Kateřina (1807-1889). Czech soprano singer. Displayed enormous musical talent during her childhood, appearing on stage in the Theate for the first time when only twelve years of age. In 1820 she enjoyed considerable public success when she participated in a concert at the Leipzig Gewandhaus. Aged fifteen she was employed in the Estates Theatre chorus and frequently sang minor solo rôles. During the middle 1830s she was the leading female singer at the Estates Theatre. Although she retired from the theatre in 1849 she continued to appear in occasional local concerts. As an artist she was characterized by her outstanding vocal technique, an exceptional range of three octaves and quality of voice, and a capacity to accompany her rôles with excellent acting.
