The brief, unsigned Národní listy 4/7/1861 review commented that the ‘declamations, and choral and solo songs’ in this series of five entertainments were to the audience little more than ‘extras’ to the main concern of the event, namely dancing. ‘As extras they were always quite satisfactory, always well chosen and arranged and positioned, really so excellent that for a little while the society even forgot its main task, dance.’ An unsigned review was also published in Čas 4/7/1861. This reported that although the weather was very inclement, there still assembled such a numerous society that there was hardly room in the hall, demonstrating how well-liked were these entertainments. The first half comprised songs and declamations that were creditably [slušně] perfomed, and in which Messrs Schwarz [Švarc] and Přerhof received respectable approbation. The second part comprised a dance entertainment. Only at 2am did the numerous society disperse with the wish expressed on many sides that these ‘besedas’ would be repeated.
