Commentary:

The Dalibor review stated that this production constituted a performance examination for Lion in piano and orchestration. Lion’s teachers in these subjects were, respectively, the Czech virtuoso Alexander Dreyschock and the director of the Prague Conservatory, J.F. Kittl. The orchestral accompaniment was provided by pupils of the Conservatory, and was praised by the Dalibor critic for its accuracy, polish and fire. An invited audience attended the production. After reporting upon this production, the Dalibor critic petitioned the Prague Conservatory’s parent body, the Society for the Advancement of Musical Art in Bohemia, to instigate the teaching of piano at the Conservatory. This, the report considered, would be of great advantage to the Conservatory itself. The report also suggested that the position of Professor of piano could be offered to Alexander Dreyschock who, it was noted, held just such a position at the Conservatory in Vienna.

The source did not specify the venue of this event. Being given before an invited audience it most probably took place within the Conservatory itself, rather than at the public Konvikt Hall or the Estates Theatre where the majority of Conservatory public concerts took place.
