Commentary:

A report appearing in Bohemia19/8/1851 recounted that in the early morning of 18th August cannons were fired to mark the birthday of ‘His Majesty our Emperor’. A parade took place from the ‘Bürgergarden’ and in the Old Town Square [Staroměstské náměstí]. A high mass was given in the Týn church and a celebratory mass took place in the cathedral of St Vitus at 11am attended by military and civil personnel. In the castle square the entire garrison then paraded, including injured soldiers and children. No mention was made of the musical content of any of these events.
