Initial news of this event appeared as a notice published by Bohemia 12/8/1851. This announced that the Society was arranging a second concert in the year 1851 for its members at which new compositions will be played by the ensemble into which had recently been amalgamated the Prague Civilian musical ensemble [Prager Civilkapelle]. No further details of the event were given by the source.

Further details of this concert were published by Bohemia 14/8/1851. This text reported the date, time and venue of the event and listed the programme in projected performance order. The Tagesanzeiger text of the same issue of Bohemia also published details of the concert.

A review, signed ‘V.’, was published by Bohemia 17/8/1851. This reported that owing to unforseen circumstances, the event, given by the Society under the motto ‘Fehlen ist menschlich’, did not begin with the Overture by Kittl has had previously been advertised. Instead, ‘Performed very doughtily and with energy by the Prague Civil-orchestra [Prager Civilorchester] was an Overture in D [major] by Kalliwoda [Kalivoda] and one new to the concert hall by Haydinger [Heydinger].’ In their style and aesthetic content the two works were described and compared to more compositions, the correspondent citing as an example the music of Berlioz. In keeping with the Society’s founding  intention of stimulating the composition of new works by native composers and enabling their performance, the concert programme also contained two anonymous compositions, an Overture entitled Das Traumbild and ‘a great chorus with orchestra [einen großen Chor mit Orchester]’. The first was characterized by ‘a very respectable facility in the texture and orchestration and intimate’, although the composer’s reliance on established models was discernible. The chorus received qualified praise. Both of these new works were received with applause. The remainder of the programme included the ‘“Kriegerchor” aus Otto’s Sängersaal, ... a very difficult Fantaisie brillante performed by Mr Lindner, and Mr Bachmann with Variations for the oboe.’ Of these two instrumental soloists, ‘the first displays great dexterity, the other a very rich tone. Both were curtain-called, Mr Bachmann several times. The hall was quite full, with the greater part of the audience made up of the fair sex.’

Although the earlier Bohemia report indicated that the event was being given for members of the Patriotic Music Society, this was not confirmed by the subsequent review. However, the note by the reviewer that the hall was not full may suggest that the event was not open to the general public.
