Commentary:

A post-event report, signed ‘V.’, was published by Bohemia 12/6/1851 noted that ‘friends of high church music’ had the pleasure of hearing a mass composed by the Director of the Prague Organ School, Pitsch, on Whit Sunday [Pfingstsonntag]. The correspondent related how the composer was known everywhere to be an ‘excellent organist, profound theoretician and contrapuntist’, and therefore his work might well be expected to be cast in the strictest church-music style. However, the mass combined both poetic content and masterly creative and contrapuntal technique. The performance was also praised, in particular by the [unspecified] solo singers.
