Commentary:

Advance news of this event was published by Bohemia 9/1/1851. The report related that for the early Carnival season a ‘great National-Ball’ was being prepared for 5th February to take place in the Apollo Hall. A musical trial for this event was announced for 12th January at the same venue. Compositions of such ‘favourite composers as Strauß, Labitzky, Gungl, Miss Ringelsberg, Pergler, Petrak, Král and others will be given, performed by the band of the First National Guard Battalion under the personal direction of their Kapellmeister Mr Pergler.’ Admission to the event commenced at 4.30pm.
