Commentary:

An announcement for this event appeared in the Czech-language newspapre Národní listy 10/10/1863, noting: ‘„Singing and theatrical beseda“ [Zpěvní a herecká beseda] given by Mr J. Svoboda this evening at 7 o’clock first performance in Žofín Hall. From the meticulous preparations it is possible to expect pleasant entertainment.’ No details of this Czech event were published by Prager Morgenpost.

This entertainment was repeated again in German on 13/10/1863 in the Inn ‘At the City of Jerusalem’, according to an advertisement appearing in Prager Morgenpost 13/10/1863. According to a report published by Prager Morgenpost 14/10/1863 Svoboda’s company was formed for the purpose of entertaining in local inns and guest houses. The content of this Prager Morgenpost source is reproduced in the database’s Institution link for ‘Svoboda’s Singing and Theatrical Company’.Interestingly, just as Prager Morgenpost did not cover the 10/10/1863 Czech event, Národní listy made no mention about the German performance taking place on 13/10/1863.
