The Czech-language arts periodical Lumír 19/8/1854 reported published a summary of celebratory events given in Prague on the birthday of the Emperor. The source reported that ‘At 9am His Eminence the Cardinal-Archbishop Prince Švarcenberk administered a celebratory mass in the the church of St Vitus on Prague Castle, at which were present many of the highest and lower civil and military authorities.’ No further details of this event were given by this source. The day’s activities were preceded at 5am by an artillery salute over the city. The text also noted that services were given in other Catholic and Protestant churches throughout the city as well as in the Jewish School [‘ve škole židovské’].
