Köckert, Adolph (1828-1911). German violinist born in Magdeburg. Studied violin from 1843 at the Prague Conservatory, graduating in 1849. Subsequently employed in the orchestra of the German Estates Theatre as first violinist until 1852. He then embarked upon a concert tour of Germany, Austria and Bohemia, appearing in Prague in April 1854. Following a break from music he returned to playing in 1859 in a touring string quartet. According to Lumír 1/5/1851 he remained a member of the Estates Theatre orchestra until late April 1851 when he left to take up a position in Zagreb. The Czech periodical reported further on 26/6/1851 that he had given a concert in Zagreb with great success and was apparently engaged to become a teacher at the Zagreb Conservatoire which was then in the process of being founded.
