Moritz Hauptmann
Hauptmann, Moritz (1792-1868). German musical theoretician and composer. Studied at Dresden and then after periods in Russia and in Cassel became Cantor at St Thomas' church in Leipzig (from 1842). Writings included studies on music theory and acoustics. Compositions included church music, secula vocal works, instrumental music and an opera, Mathilde.
