Mercy’s Anzeiger 8/6/1854 listed entertainments that were to take place between 8th June and 10th June given by the local nobility and aristocracy to honour the visit to Prague of the Emperor Franz Joseph. The source remarked that it was expected His Majesty would honour these festivities through his presence. This ball on 10th June was being given by ‘His Serene Highness the Prince Vinz. Auersperg’. No further details of the occasion were noted by the source. On 12/6/1854 the newspaper reported that ‘Their Royal Majesties [i.e. the Emperor Franz Joseph and the Empress Elizabeth] had at 8pm attended the Ball Festival given by Prince Auersperg.’ ‘Prince Auersperg’ would have been Prince Vincenz Karel Josef Gabriel Auersperg (1812-1867), son of Vincenz Auersperg (1790-1812) and Gabriele Lobkowitz (1793-1867).
