Pierre Rode
Rode, Jacques Pierre Joseph (1774-1830). French violinist and composer. Displayed considerable talent for the violin as a child and was sent to Paris to study the instrument, giving his first concert there in 1790. He joined the orchestra of the Théâtre Feydeau and then from 1794 began to tour abroad, successfully giving concerts in England, Germany and Holland. Soon after he became professor of violin in the new Paris Conservatoire. He travelled in Germany during 1811-13 and visited Vienna. In 1814 settled in Berlin but soon move back to France to retire. Compositions include around 13 violin concerti, a large body of chamber music and other violin works.
