Ludwig Slansky

Slanský, Ludevít (1838-1905). Czech violinist, conductor and composer. Studied violin at the Prague Conservatory (1852-1858), also accomplished training as a singer and pianist. His career orientated around the German Theatre in Prague. He was conductor of the Estates Theatre’s dance company (from 1859), and then in 1863 as second conductor there, eventually becoming principal conductor from 1871-1889. From the late 1850s into the 1870s he was active as a composer, writing for theatre productions as well as producing some songs and choruses.
