Person details

František Arnold Vogl

Vogel

Vogl, František Arnold (1821-1891). Czech singer, singing teacher and composer. Pupil at the Prague Conservatory under Josef Schnepf and the Italian Gordigiani. After a brief period successfully working as a solo singer he devoted himself more to teaching, eventually becoming Professor of singing at the Conservatory. From October 1851 until 1855 he was director of the Žofín Academy. The majority of his compositions were Czech songs and choruses cast in a style that Dalibor 10/6/1859 noted as possessing more Slavonic energy than Romantic spirit, works that were warm-hearted and lyrical and grateful for singers.
