Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst

Ernst, Heinrich Wilhelm (1814-1865). Moravian violinist. Studied at the Vienna Conservatoire from the age of 9. During the late 1830s and in the 1840s toured Europe with great success as a travelling virtuoso. He retained links with Brno and appeared in concerts there many times. His compositions, almost exclusively for his instrument, were cast in either a virtuoso or didactic mould, many gaining considerable popularity being adopted as display pieces by his contemporaries and successors.
