Commentary:

News that Kapellmeister Swoboda [Svoboda] was to embark upon a cycle of eight musical divertissements in the Žofín Hall from 3rd November was published by Bohemia 29/10/1850. The report relayed that they would take place on Sundays and Wednesdays, that the Sunday performances would be of ‘more exhilarating Art’ and those on Wednesdays would be of ‘more important and Classical compositions’.

Details of the first of these events were relayed in the Tagesanzeiger texts of Bohemia 1/11/1850 and 3/11/1850. These reported that on the afternoon of Sunday 3rd November in the Žofín Hall would take place a ‘Musical Divertissement’ given by the band of the 1st Field-Artillery Regiment. This was the ensemble of which Svoboda was then Kapellmeister.
