Brief information about this forthcoming event appeared in Bohemia 18/8/1850, noting that ‘On Wednesday 21st will be given in the Hall of the City of Leipzig [Inn] a Ball for the benefit of fire victims in Chrudim.’ The Tagesanzeiger text of Bohemia 20/8/1850 also gave details of the event, noting that it would take place in the evening in the Hall of the City of Leipzig in Karlín.

Prager Zeitung 3/9/1850 published more full details of this event and its organization and background. The text related that ‘Messrs E.F. Hauschka, merchant, Karl Nowotný [Novotný], entertainer [Gastgeber - lit. host or entertainer], Lokai, merchant, had arranged at the local guest house “zur Stadt Leipzig” in Karlín for the benefit of fire victims in Chrudim a Society Ball [Gesellschaftsball], at which through the permission of his excellency Colonel Baron Reichling von Meldegg, the band of the laudable Imperial Regiment of Baron von Wohlgemuth played for free’. The venue was provided without charge for the occasion by Mr Anton Fiedler, and the Prague lithographer Mr Witek [Vítek] had provided the dance programmes. A profit of 187 fl 17 kr had been obtained.
